Using a safe, effective treatment for lice is the first step in getting rid of lice for good. RID Lice Killing Shampoo might be a popular over-the-counter remedy for head lice, but it’s not the safest or the most effective method.

RID Lice Killing Shampoo…

is often the first remedy people try when faced with battling head lice. Prominently displayed on the drugstore shelves, RID Shampoo seems like the best option for people facing lice for the first time. But is there a better way?

RID Lice Killing Shampoo is a medicine that contains a pest-killing ingredient. This pesticide, if used according to the directions, can sometimes be an effective method of killing lice. There are two issues to consider when deciding whether or not to use RID Shampoo.

RID Shampoo, because it is a potent pesticide, needs to be applied meticulously.

Following the specific directions on the package is very important in obtaining the best possible results. The application of shampoo needs to happen on dry hair and in a certain way. This is often difficult to do with young children who are not adept at sitting still.

After sitting for ten minutes, the shampoo needs to be rinsed out. At this point, the hair must be combed with a special nit comb, included with the kit. This nit comb will pull out lice, eggs, and nits from the hair. Combing the hair is a tedious process, but it is effective. Often, it can be the key to beating the lice infestation.

The other thing to consider when choosing RID Shampoo as a lice treatment…

is being aware that in order to achieve the maximum results, you’ll need to reapply the shampoo in seven to ten days. This is a second application of pesticide within two weeks, often on a small, young child. As with any medication, side effects are possible. RID should not be used on children younger than age two. With other treatment options available, especially methods proven to be reliable without the harsh pesticides, RID might not seem like the best option.

Many people who have used RID Shampoo with the hope that it will beat their lice infestation have been disappointed to discover that the lice were not killed by the medication. Over time, lice develop resistance to these medications and they become less effective.

There are proven, effective methods available for getting rid of lice.

Using ingredients found in your local grocery and drug stores, you can create a safe, reliable lice treatment for your family. Once you discover this treatment, you’ll never consider an over-the-counter medicine again.

Once a lice infestation takes hold in your home, it seems like only the efforts of a superhero can defeat it! The key to triumphing over lice quickly and effectively is to use a safe remedy that works the first time to kill the lice and the nits. Then tackle your home and be sure to kill every last one of the lice.

Click on the banner above to find out about this safe, sure shot method of getting rid of lice for good!

Can a lice treatment Come to YOUR Rescue?

Discovering your child has lice for the first time can be very embarrassing. Finding a quick, effective solution can help alleviate that embarrassment.

Hair lice was not something I ever thought was even a possibility in my child’s life. I pride myself on being an over-protective mother. I know my daughter’s friends and the families of those friends. I know my child’s teachers and I spend a great deal of time in the classroom volunteering. My daughter washes her hair every other night and she wears clean clothes to school every day.

I even pack her lunch every day and know what she eats! So when the school nurse called to tell me that my daughter had lice, I almost had a heart attack. My child? No way. She had to be kidding. My child was protected – by me! This could not be happening.

Head lice had always been something that other people had to deal with.

I never had lice as a child and I never expected that my daughter would be susceptible. My daughter goes to a private school. I know all of the children in her class! Even when she’s gone to sleep away summer camp, she’s never had a problem with lice. The summer camp checks all the girls before they let them get into their cabins. Lice at summer camps can be horrible and we’ve never had a problem.

I was too embarrassed to tell anyone – even my friends and my family.

What would they think of me! I was sick when I had to call my husband at work and tell him. He didn’t blame me, of course, but what if he had? Would he have been right? It had to be my fault my daughter had lice.

Because I didn’t know what else to do, I called my pediatrician’s office and talked to the nurse.

“It was so embarrassing to make that phone call!”

The nurse was super-nice and she immediately tried to reassure me that this wasn’t my fault in any way. Lots of kids get lice, even kids who are clean and well cared for. Lice are parasites that simply jump from one person to the next. Whether that person is clean or dirty doesn’t matter!

She then told me to “get ready because lice can be very hard to get rid of”.

You have to be very careful and very thorough in order for the lice to go away completely. I would have to shampoo my daughter’s hair with special shampoo and I’d have to comb her hair with a nit comb. I’d have to wash all her clothes in hot, hot water and wash all her bedding too.

I had to vacuum everything – even her mattress!

And I might have to do all this more than one time. She told me to check myself and my husband carefully to see if we were infected. When she said that, of course my head started itching!

I felt a little better after I talked to the nurse, but I still had that sick feeling in my stomach, like I was ashamed. I guess I know it’s not my fault that my daughter got hair lice, and I’ve got to start to the difficult process of trying to get rid of these parasites.

You don’t have to put up with a nasty chemical remedy for head lice.

You can try a natural lice treatment instead. There are plenty of options in this area and they all are known to work exceptionally well for getting rid of itchy, annoying head lice. Best of all, you won’t have to worry about getting contaminated with toxic

TOP 5 - LICE TREATMENTS, THAT IS!

chemicals when you lather up with a pesticide shampoo. Plenty of people want to stay away from chemicals and find that natural options work well and help keep them feeling strong and healthy. This is especially true of children, who are most susceptible to lice.

Here are the 5 top natural lice treatments:

1. Comb them out.

You can manually comb out the lice one by one. This, of course, is tedious in nature and does take some time to complete, but it involves no chemicals, no washing, and is effective if done thoroughly. You simply comb through your child’s hair and pluck out any and all lice and eggs that you find. Do this every day for several weeks to make sure you’ve gotten all of the eggs and that no more are going to hatch, and you’ll have a lice-free child again.

2. Shave your child’s head–

This is a drastic natural lice treatment, but it works. You simply shave off all of the hair and there is no place for the lice to hold onto or hide. Of course, you only want to do this with a child who is comfortable having his or her head shaved. Not every child will agree to this, and it can be a terribly traumatic thing to have forced upon a kid, so only do it if the child agrees. Even then, still carefully examine the scalp to make sure no lice eggs remain.

3. Mayonnaise–

Mayonnaise is acidic and is one of the more common natural lice treatments. It can kill lice and eggs when left on the hair for several hours or overnight. Just make sure to wash the child’s hair the next day with grease-busting dishwashing detergent to get all of the mayonnaise grease out, then comb out the lice as normal. Do this every two to three days for a week or two, and you’ll soon see that the lice and all of their eggs have vanished.

4. Olive Oil–

Among natural lice treatments, this one is similar to the mayonnaise treatment and works the same way. It is a bit messier, though, so be sure to keep towels nearby while the oil soaks into the hair, in case of drips. It is important to keep the oil off of clothing and sheets, because the stains are hard to get out.

5. Tea Tree Oil–

This natural oil smothers lice and their eggs and is good for getting lice out of hair, as well as carpets, furniture, and pets. Try one of these natural lice treatments the next time your child comes home with head lice.

Head lice treatments are something that every parent will eventually have to confront.

That is because head lice is an extremely contagious condition that is particularly common among elementary school aged children. Chances are more likely than not that your child will develop head lice at some point during his or her elementary school career and have to get head lice treatment of some sort.

The type of treatment you choose will be based on your own personal preferences and those of your child. Some parents want totally natural treatments, while others want the chemical shampoo. Here are some of your options.

*Coal Tar Shampoo–

This is a common shampoo recommended and often prescribed among pediatricians as one of the premier head lice treatments. Head lice hate coal tar, which is a byproduct of the coal processing procedure.

It literally smothers them and destroys their eggs. A few shampoos with this stuff, left on overnight, will surely kill even the hardiest of lice. The only drawback is that the shampoo smells awful and some kids just won’t accept it due to that. If your child is adverse to the smell, you may have to choose another treatment option to maintain peace in the house.

*Pesticide Shampoo–

Among head lice treatments, this is the one that is the most well known and common. It is a prescription shampoo that contains pesticides that are meant to kill the lice quickly, as well as their eggs.

You can get this shampoo from nearly any drug store with a prescription, and it works well. You will have to use it two to three times over the course of a few weeks to get all the lice and eggs, but otherwise, it is a no-fuss method of lice removal.

*Olive Oil–

Some parents just don’t like chemical head lice treatments, so they opt for less harsh ones, such as olive oil. Natural treatments are very popular these days, and parents who use them often feel that they are doing something beneficial for their child by keeping them away from the chemicals.

This may be true, but remember, it is still going to take several treatments with olive oil to get rid of all of the lice, and that olive oil is messy. Be sure to keep lots of towels and wash cloths nearby for wiping up drips while the oil is in your child’s hair.

Other natural head lice treatments that are popular include mayonnaise and tea tree oil.

No matter what treatment you use, however, you will always have to follow up a washing with a thorough combing of the hair to pick out lice and eggs manually and throw them away. It is preferable to seal the lice and eggs up in a plastic bag and get them out of the house to avoid re-infestation. Do this over several weeks, and the lice will be gone, hopefully never to return.

“Have you heard of the olive oil lice treatment?”

If not, you may want to read on so you can use it if your child comes down with head lice. Head lice is a common problem among elementary school students, and the chances of your child developing it at this age is quite high. The lice are very contagious, as they easily crawl from one head to another, and since children typically play in very close quarters, it is easy for the lice to spread. Be prepared with olive oil, and you can say good by to lice almost as soon as they arrive.

The olive oil live treatment is almost exactly what it says it is. It is treating your child’s hair with olive oil to remove lice.

The olive oil makes your child’s hair nice and slick, which then makes it difficult for lice and their eggs to cling to the hair, so removal is a lot easier. You probably already have most, if not all, of the ingredients you need to do this treatment at your house already, so you’ll be prepared if your child comes home with lice.

First of all, you’ll want to completely saturate your child’s hair with olive oil as the first part of the olive oil lice treatment.

You may need more than one bottle of olive oil to do this, depending on how long and thick your child’s hair is. Once it is saturated, bundle the hair all up on top of your child’s head and place a plastic shower cap over it all. Keep dry wash cloths handy for any oil that drips past the border of the shower cap. Since your child will be sleeping in the olive oil, put down towels for her to sleep on as well, to protect the bedding.

The next day, remove the cap and wash your child’s hair with dishwashing detergent

This removes the grease of the olive oil lice treatment. A grease fighting detergent like Palmolive or some other well known brand is fine. Then, rinse with warm water and make sure all of the olive oil is out of the hair. Once the hair is squeaky clean, you can start the next phase of the treatment, which is combing.

The combing part of the olive oil lice treatment takes some time, but is necessary.

You’ll need to go through 1/2 inch sections of your child’s hair with a metal toothed comb, working your way from the roots to the tips, and pull out every single lice and egg you see. Put the lice and eggs in a plastic bag and throw it away outside the house when you’re done. Then, dry your child’s hair as usual. You’ll need to repeat this procedure every three days for the next two weeks to makes sure all of the lice and eggs are gone. Then, you will have successfully de-loused your child with no chemicals!

When your child comes down with head lice (as most elementary school aged children eventually do), you’ll have to have some sort of treatment in mind and available for immediate use. The sooner you start treating lice, the better, because you don’t want them to form a large colony with plenty of eggs on your child’s head. The more lice there are, the harder they will be to get rid of. You may be concerned about the chemicals in traditional lice shampoo.

Fortunately, there are some natural lice treatments that really do work.

A. Shave your child’s head.

This is actually king among natural lice treatments, as it’s so simple and easy. But you want to be careful about what sort of child you use this on. You can’t very well shave a girl’s head (unless she’s a huge tomboy and doesn’t care), because for most girls, their hair is a great source of self-esteem and identity for them. You can do it with some boys who are used to having short hair anyway, and having a shaved head makes it easy to pick out the remaining lice and eggs so they don’t come back.

B. Just comb the lice out.

This is the manual method of natural lice treatments. It takes some time, but is well worth it, because you won’t have to make a mess and no chemicals are necessary. You simply buy a large metal toothed comb (which is best for finely separating hairs from each other), and go through every inch of your child’s head in sections, pulling off lice and eggs wherever you see them. Dispose of the lice in a plastic bag that can be sealed, and then throw it away in a location outside the house. Do this over several weeks, and your child will be lice free.

C. Use a tea tree oil spray.

This is one of the nicest smelling of the natural lice treatments, as tea tree oil has a pleasant, minty smell. Saturate your child’s head with the oil, cover it overnight with a plastic shower cap, and then rinse it out the next day, being sure to comb out lice afterward. Do this every few days for a couple of weeks, and you’ll find that the lice are soon gone. They can’t breathe under the tee tree oil. Just make sure to dilute it with some water before putting it in your child’s hair.

As you can see, there are several effective natural lice treatments that work.

If you are determined to not use chemicals on your child’s head, then these are the best options to work with. They are easy enough to use, and will definitely get rid of the lice just as well as a chemical-laden shampoo will. Give them a try and see how well they work. You’ll be surprised and glad you went natural.

Head lice is a common problem among elementary school students.

In fact, the vast majority of students of this age will get head lice at some point during their elementary years. Usually, when one child gets it, the entire class does. This is because lice are highly contagious as they crawl from one head to another. You will eventually have to discover a lice treatment, and you’ll need to find one your child will accept and not fight you on, as it is essential to get rid of the lice completely so they don’t come back and infest the rest of the household.

For very young boys who have always had short hair, the best and easiest lice treatment is probably simply shaving the head.

Many young boys won’t mind having a shaved head at all, and may even thing it’s cool. Once the hair is no longer there, there is no place for the lice to latch onto, and any remaining lice or eggs can be easily seen and removed. You won’t want to try this on a girl, though, or on a boy who is used to having longer hair.

You can also get a prescription shampoo as your lice treatment.

These shampoos are readily available from your pediatrician and work very well to get rid of lice in just a few treatments. You often have to leave the shampoo on your child’s head overnight, so be sure to keep a plastic shower cap handy. They are highly effective, but many parents don’t like them because they contain pesticides, and they don’t wish to put pesticides on their child’s head. Fortunately, there are also natural options for getting rid of lice.

Metal toothed combing is the natural, manual lice treatment.

You simply take a metal toothed comb (the metal teeth separate hairs better than plastic), and go through your child’s hair, inch by inch, working your way from the root to the tip, and pluck out every lice or egg you see, depositing them in a plastic bag you can seal, and then throwing the bag away outside. You’ll do this over the course of several weeks to make sure all the eggs are gone. It takes time, but it is highly effective as a way of removing lice without chemicals.

Finally, you can use mayonnaise as a lice treatment.

Some children actually think it’s funny or cool to have mayonnaise slathered onto their hair. It is a chance for them to play with their food without getting in trouble. Just leave the mayonnaise on overnight and comb out the lice in the morning. Do this every few days for a few weeks, and you’ll soon see a complete disappearance of the lice and a return to normal for you and your child.

Head lice treatment comes in a variety of forms, depending on the severity of your child’s case and your own personal preferences. Treating lice can be done in conventional ways involving pesticides, or it can be done naturally. There are many different natural treatments for lice, and if you’re concerned about chemicals, you may want to explore some of these options.

SIMPLY THE BEST - LICE TREATMENT, THAT IS!

After all, no one is really excited about the prospect of putting chemicals on their child’s head. So, if you are interested in natural lice treatments, here are some you can try out at home that are totally non-toxic.

*Metal tooth combing–This head lice treatment is about as simple as it gets.

You just get a metal toothed comb and manually go through your child’s hair with it, picking out lice as you go. Well, you’ve got to pick out both lice AND eggs for this to be successful, and you’ve got to do it almost daily for several weeks. Just make sure to go through every inch of your child’s hair and scalp each time, and put lice and eggs into a zip locked plastic bag after each combing and then get the bag out of the house.

*Mayonnaise–You can actually use mayonnaise as a head lice treatment.

It is acidic enough to create an unfavorable environment for lice and their eggs, and oily enough that it makes combing through your child’s hair to get rid of them fairly easy. It is a bit messy, though, as you will need to leave the mayonnaise on your child’s head overnight, and then comb out the lice in the morning, and you’ll need to do this over the course of a couple of weeks, so be sure to invest in a plastic shower cap to keep mayonnaise off the pillows.

*Olive oil–Olive oil is also a good head lice treatment and is applied in much the same way that mayonnaise is.

Your child will have to sleep in hair saturated with olive oil each night for a few weeks, and unlike mayonnaise, olive oil may drip down past the borders of a plastic shower cap, so be sure to put down towels for your child to sleep on to protect the bedding, and also keep some dry wash cloths nearby for your child to wipe his or her face with if the oil drips down on it.

*Tea tree oil–Tea tree oil is a great head lice treatment in that lice and their eggs simply can’t breathe properly when this oil is applied.

You’ll find that saturation of not only hair, but of other household objects like furniture, carpeting, and pets with this oil, and then a good rinsing, will often get rid of lice quite effectively. You can find tea tree oil at most health food stores, and though it is a bit expensive, it does work and is totally natural and safe.

“So, your child has head lice.”

That means it is now lice treatment time, a most unpleasant experience for nearly any parent. Treating lice can be very difficult and time consuming, whether you go with a traditional medicated shampoo or opt for natural treatments. You’re still going to have to take the time to make sure that every single lice and its eggs are removed from your child’s hair before you can be totally sure he is cured. It may take a few weeks to accomplish this, but it must be done. Here is what to do when it comes time to get rid of lice:

1. Buy a metal toothed comb.

This tool will be invaluable to you no matter what method you choose for lice treatment time. You will always need a way to go through your child’s hair and remove lice, both with conventional and natural treatments. The metal toothed comb will help you do it more easily by finely separating the hairs on your child’s head so you can see down to the root of the hair shaft, which is where lice eggs are most likely to hide.

2. Expect the process to take a week or two to complete. Getting rid of lice takes time.

Lice treatment time will involve multiple shampoos and multiple sessions with the metal toothed comb. You’ve got to wait nearly two whole weeks to make sure that all of the eggs are gone and that no more will be hatching to re-infest your child. So, keep looking through your child’s hair every few days until you are sure every trace of those lice are gone. You’ll be glad you took the time to do it, so you won’t have to repeat the lice eradication procedure again and again.

3. Be sure to make certain the rest of the house is lice-free.

Lice don’t jump from place to place, but they can crawl, so anything that may have come into contact with your child’s hair is potentially contaminated with lice. This means that clothing, bedding, carpeting, and furniture…even pets!…must all be cleaned and examined for lice. Lice treatment time always involves a thorough cleaning of the entire house. Usually, a trip through the dryer is enough for clothing and bedding, while vacuuming and tea tree oil spray is good for carpeting and pets.

Lice treatment time usually comes around at least once per child for parents, because schools are virtual nesting grounds for these creatures.

If one child in the class has lice, the other children are sure to follow. This usually happens in elementary school, when children are in close contact with one another and playing outside a lot. So, expect it when your child is young and you’ll be prepared to treat it when it does appear. There are certainly worse things than lice, but you want to make sure your child is lice free.

Does the tea tree oil lice treatment really work?

In fact, it does, and it works very well. Tea tree oil comes from a special tree that is native to Australia and is used all over the world as a very effective natural anti-septic. It is also useful as an anti-fungal and as an insecticide.

Plus, it is non-toxic to humans when used externally, which makes it the perfect natural remedy for the plague of head lice that most children experience at least once in their childhoods. If you don’t want to use the traditional chemical based shampoos, then this is a good option for you.

Tea tree oil for the tea tree oil lice treatment can be found at nearly any health food store

and is also available at many regular grocery stores due to its increasing popularity. When you use it on your child, all you have to do is mix two tablespoons of it with one quart of water in a plastic spray bottle and then spray it all over your child’s head, being sure to thoroughly saturate the hair down to the roots, and comb it through to make sure it gets everywhere, even the scalp.

Then, leave it on overnight, while covering the hair with a plastic shower cap, then wash it out the next day with a de-greasing dishwashing detergent.

Comb the hair afterward to manually pick out any visible lice and eggs, being sure to dispose of them outside as soon as you’re done. Do this every two to three days for two weeks or so, and you’ll find that your child is mercifully lice free.

The beauty of the tea tree oil lice treatment is that it can also be used on other things in the house that may get infested with lice.

For example, you can spray it on pets, so that they don’t get a lice infestation. You can also spray it on furniture and carpeting to help kill off lice. Lice and their eggs can’t breathe when doused in tea tree oil, so it is an excellent way of getting rid of them without putting toxins in your home or on your child.

“For clothing and bedding that may have been infested with lice, you can just run those things through the dryer”

as the heat from the dryer will usually be enough to kill the lice. However, you may try spritzing clothing and bedding with the tea tree oil lice treatment just before putting them in the dryer, just to make extra sure the lice are gone. Parents today are looking for safe, “non-toxic” alternatives to medications like lice shampoo, and using tea tree oil is an excellent choice that works well and is safe for everyone in the house.
